Internet Response

I think the most important point that movie made was the part about privacy. i posted some pictures from a family vacation on my facebook and i had to tell her i wouldn't accept her friend request. she was very bothered by this, and i can see why. what is her little boy hiding? i don't even know, but i feel like i would have to censor myself if all the sudden my mom was on facebook. it's creepy. i stopped having my credit card bill sent to my house because whenever i got home, it would be open. then my mom suggests i stop eating fast food or something. granted that isn't designed to be public, like a facebook account. if i'm on facebook and my mom walks into the room, i feel compelled to switch the screen to something else. there's probably nothing incriminating on the screen. i just get creeped out when my mom reads stuff over my shoulder.

Wow, this week has been a trip down memory lane. After listening to Enema of the state last week i've been enjoying songs from my earlier years. Anything from 6th to 12th grade pretty much. It's been great classics i've all but forgot about like "The Way" by Fastball. I remember it being so crazy and unlike anything else back then. Granted i'm listening to all of these songs with a great sense of nostalgia, it's also novelty. I like a lot of these songs, but i don't listen to them the same way i used to. It's been fun though. One album i do not miss that i listened to heavily in my childhood was "Running With Scissors" by Weird "Al" Yankovic. Do not miss that album, i don't know how i listened to it so much, his voice makes me cringe as hard as dave matthew's vocals. They're unsettling and awful.

american idol profile

American Idol viewer stereotype:
The embodiment of an american idol fan is a 17 year old white female from a middle to upper-middle class family from any suburban town. Not too upper-class or she won't have that aspiration to make it big that. the idea that american idol is all about. rags to riches and such. listens to pop music and this girl is pretty sure she started watching it before anyone else.

part II:
Social Class Segmentation
1. American Idol fans aspire to be ultra famous.
2. Age and Gender are not as important. Guys and girls win, even that guy with the gray hair.
3. show is based of a rags (low social class) to riches (high social class) idea
4. most fans are middle class, feel like they control their fate.
5. spans broad ethnic groups, and therefore is not a segmentation.

I feel kinda bad because last week i didn't include video games and that's a large portion of my consumption. It's the reason i don't really watch tv. The reason i don't really read a lot is because my zune has all the episodes of top gear so instead of reading the Red Eye or something, i just flip on my zune. if i'm on my bike that's when i pop on an album i feel like listening to at the moment, my zune has too many songs to trust the shuffle, so i tend to stick to albums, they are usually the right length to listen to on my rides.

This week i spent most of my time in Colorado with the family. Any down time from skiing (i started early, and therefore, did not miss the boat) I spent checking digg.com or facebook. If i was watching TV it was the news, and was pretty surprised to see that Blagovich was the only thing worth talking about. He got more coverage than the president elect, and the snow that was inevitably coming. Digg.com is pretty much my news/entertainment source. Its a news website where users suggest blog articles, pictures, videos or other worthwhile things on the internet. I'm not a fan of network television, so the internet is my network tv refuge. One of the things i "dugg" was an article about the worlds first supervillian on cracked.com. Usually cracked does a pretty good job with humor writing. this wasn't the best, but it was still such a ridiculous story, it worked pretty well. When i was on the plane, i listened to my Zune (love that zune.) the albums i listened to were "Oracular Spectacular" by MGMT, "A weekend in the city" by Bloc Party, and "Elephant Eyelash" by Why?. I spent a lot of time on the website theonlythingtofearisfearitself.blogspot.com it's this crazy blog about weird fears people have, and it was fun to see people talk about riduclous fears they have. there were a few ones that i had grown out of since childhood like mirrors in very dark rooms used to be terrifying. not so much anymore, but it still scares a lot of people, turns out.
